Sports data science salaries in the UK: 2026 guide

A 3D wireframe benchmarking visualization showing salary trend curves, benchmarking nodes, and coordinate grids.

Salary information in UK sports data is notoriously opaque. Most published bands are at least 18 months out of date, most public sources mix permanent and contract roles, and most roles are filled before they ever advertise.

This guide is what we tell our candidates and clients when they ask. It's directional rather than exhaustive - the ranges below reflect what we see in active searches we're running in 2026.

How to read these numbers

Permanent ranges quoted are base salary, not total comp. Bonus structures vary widely - most clubs run a small annual bonus tied to results, with larger packages reserved for senior leadership.

Contract day rates are inside-IR35, before any agency margin. Outside-IR35 engagements still exist for the most senior individual contributors but are increasingly rare.

These are UK numbers. Continental Europe runs 10-25% lower at the mid-level; US franchises run 30-60% higher.
